After tasting “Himeru,” which represents Lake Towada, and “Towada barayaki,” which is known as one of the nation's leading “B-grade gourmet,” and after visiting the shore of Lake Towada and the Oirase Gorge, heal your fatigue at “Yachi Onsen,” which is also famous as the “Japan's Three Secret Hot Springs.” We have prepared a gastronomy walk that can only be experienced in Towada. *We will let you know when the tour is due to start.
Tsutanuma is a place where you can fully enjoy nature that is different from Lake Towada and the Oirase Gorge. The area centered around Tsuta Onsen is a deep beech forest, and there are 7 swamps: Tsutanuma, Kagaminuma, Suganuma, Naganuma, Tsukinuma, Hyotanuma, and Akanuma. These seven swamps are called “Tsuta Nananuma,” and there is a nature observation path connecting the 6 swamps excluding Akanuma. It is also known as a treasure trove of wild birds, and you can enjoy a walk with the chirping of wild birds as background music.
If you want to enjoy fall art, I recommend the downtown area. Towada Art Center is an art museum established in 2008 as a base facility for urban development through art promoted by Towada City, Aomori Prefecture. Works by famous domestic and international contemporary artists are on display. Outdoor art works are scattered not only within the building, but also in the surrounding area, so you can feel close to art throughout the city.
Lake Towada, located on the border between Aomori and Akita prefectures, is one of Tohoku's leading tourist destinations. There are seasonal attractions, but Lake Towada in the fall has a laid-back atmosphere, and you can enjoy fall foliage hunting for beeches, wigs, etc. The promenade from Omaegahama, where the “Otome Statue” is located, to Katsuragahama is perfect for a walk. Lake Towada sightseeing boats, power boats, and canoe tours are also recommended, so you can feel the majesty of Lake Towada.
The earliest fall foliage in the Oirase Gorge is near the upper reaches of Lake Towada, starting in mid-October, and you can enjoy fall foliage until early November near Mount Yakeyama downstream. The vivid red and yellow color of the leaves is an appeal that can only be enjoyed at this time of year. Strolling through the Oirase Gorge while listening to the murmuring is a luxurious time.
