About
Towada Travel

The Towada Oirase Tourism Organization, established in March 2019 by stakeholders including major transportation and travel companies based in Aomori Prefecture, local industry groups, and financial institutions, began its operations in April of the same year.

This initiative was launched to harness the region's abundant resources and act as a navigator in creating a prosperous tourist area that generates and distributes wealth. On March 29, 2019, it was recognized as a candidate for the Japanese version of a Destination Management Organization (DMO), and on January 14, 2020, it was officially registered as a Japanese DMO by the Tourism Agency. The organization has taken over the duties previously managed by the Towada City Tourism Association and the Towada Lake National Park Association, aiming to comprehensively promote tourism in the Towada Oirase area.

In collaboration with local businesses, the organization is actively engaged in developing tourism strategies using data analysis (marketing), promoting and introducing the resources of the Towada Oirase area, and improving the environment to welcome tourists from both Japan and abroad. Our goal is to create a satisfying tourist destination and contribute to the sustainable development of the local community through tourism promotion.

The General Incorporated Association Towada Oirase Tourism Organization ("Towada Travel") was launched in April 2019 and registered with the the Japan Tourism Agency in 2020 as a Japanese destination management organization (DMO). The aim of establishing Japanese DMOs is to create regions that can earn through tourism.

As of October 2022, there are 255 registered entities nationwide, including 10 "Wide Area Cooperation DMOs," 103 "Regional Cooperation DMOs," and 142 "Local DMOs." The tourism industry is growing globally, and the Japanese government supports the development of the inbound tourism market, which brings significant travel consumption and foreign currency earnings, in local cities across the country.

For regional cities struggling with population decline, earning through tourism is vital for maintaining the local economy. The vision for Towada's tourism strategy, formulated in 2022, is "to create a sustainable area for tourism that thrives on earnings from its art and nature." Towada Travel aims to deploy various tourism strategies aimed at revitalizing the local economy aligned with this vision.

DMO Certification by the Japan Tourism Agency

The Towada Oirase Tourism Organization, as a registered DMO with the Japan Tourism Agency, has successfully renewed its registration. The Japan Tourism Agency established a system in November 2015 to register Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) and their candidates, aiming to serve as the command centers for regional tourism development. In April 2020, the guidelines for the DMO registration system were revised to tighten registration requirements and introduce both a renewal system and a deregistration system. We are pleased to report that, following the submission of our business report and other required documents dated October 31 of the fourth year of Reiwa (2022), we have been renewed as a registered DMO.
