Towada is fishing country, with pristine freshwater lakes and rivers in close proximity to brackish inlets and some of northern Japan’s best deep-sea fishing. Lake Towada is one of the few places to find succulent Japanese kokanee salmon, better known as himemasu, which has a long history in the area. Fish for white-spotted char along the Oirase River, or venture out and chart a boat off the coast of the Pacific.
